Math Blog Post

I can calculate how fast I can sprint

Names of students.

  1. How fast can we run?

Name
Time taken for 100m
Speed m/s
Going at the same speed… how long would it take you to run 1km
Going at the same speed… how far could you run in 1 hour?
Franz
29 seconds.
100/29 = 3.4

3.4 m/s
1000/3.4 = 294 seconds
3.4 x 60 = 204

204 x 60 = 12240

2. How fast can the best in the world run?

The world records for the 100m are:
Men:              9.58 seconds                Usain Bolt (2009)
Women:         10.49 seconds              Florence Griffith-Joyner (1998)

Complete the same table for these two runners.

Name
Time taken for 100m
Speed m/s
Going at the same speed… how long would it take you to run 1km
Going at the same speed… how far could you run in 1 hour?
Noah Ngeny
2 mins and 11 seconds
100/131 = 0.7
1000/0.7 = 1428
0.7 x 60 = 42

42 x 60 = 2520
Svetlana Masterkova
2:28
100/148 = 0.6
1000/0.6 = 1666
0.6 x 60 = 36

36 x 60 = 2160

Writing blog post

WALT: Write an effective argument for our chosen political party.

My next steps are: use emotive language

Is labor the best party to vote for? Personally I think labor is the best party to vote for. there are three policies that I would like to talk about. The first policy I will explain is Increased funding for public transport in Christchurch.

The first policy is Increased funding for public transport in Christchurch. Labour believes that investment is required in Christchurch’s public transport infrastructure. Since the earthquakes, population growth and economic development has caused increasing congestion in the city. Labour would expand the network over time. Along with commuter rail, the funding would be available to support infrastructure for buses and bus feeder services. Funding for these investments would come from the National Land Transport Fund. Labour is going to raise $100m for public transport.

The second policy is Increased funding for regional roading throughout New Zealand. Labour believes that regional transport, and roads in particular, are struggling to keep up with growth in heavy traffic and tourist numbers. Funding outside the main centres has not kept up with regional needs and some roads are poorly maintained. Labour would increase funding for regional transport. This funding would be available for transport projects outside major metropolitan areas which would create a regional economic benefit, such as upgrades of regional state highways or significant regional roads. Labour would focus in particular on improvements directed at safety. The funding range available for regional transport would be doubled from $70 - $140 million to $140 to $280 million.

A policy that I disagree with is Abolish National Standards. Abolishing National Standards means that labour is getting rid of it. One reason why I disagree with this policy is because national standards are better the way it is. Secondly national standards inform how good students are doing in school.

Is labour the best party to vote for? Personally I think labour is the best party to vote for. Increase funding for public transport in Christchurch, Increase funding for regional roading and labour getting rid of national standards. In conclusion labour is the best party to vote for.

Current Events Blog Post

Current Events Term 2, 2017

WALT: I can successfully research a current event.
Here is a link to our online modelling book for this unit of learning.

The National Standard that I have been aiming for during this unit of learning is:

  • Year7/8: I can use appropriate skills and technologies to find and use a range of texts for specific purposes.

Each week we have read a short text about a current event/ topic. We then formed questions based on what we had read.  After this we researched the answers to our questions and finally we gave our opinions on what we had found out.

Here is some evidence of my learning.

My Next Step is to continue to  apply the reading and  research skills that I have learned in a variety of other areas.

Franz's C.V

C.V. Blog POst Template

Blog Post Title:   Careers Education C.V. Writing

Copy and paste all of the text below into a new blog post.

In CAREERS EDUCATION we have been learning to write a skills based Curriculum Vitae.

A skills based C.V. focuses more on the skills that we have,  rather than our work history.

Here is a link to our online Modelling Book that shows the process we have followed.

Three things that I have learned about writing a Curriculum Vitae are:

    • Is a brief (usually but not always) account of a person’s education, qualifications, previous work experience and other useful previous experience.

    • Is submitted when a person applies for a job and gives employers an idea of the suitability of a person for a particular job.

    • Promotes you as the right person for the job and should make an employer want to find out more about you ie. offer you a face to face interview.

Evaluate Texts Blog Post

Evaluate Texts Blog Post template

In reading we have been learning to….apply some criteria to evaluate texts eg accuracy of information and presence of bias.

We have been evaluating texts against the following four criteria:
  1. Readability
  2. Accuracy
  3. Relevance
  4. Quality of language/ information.

These documents show evidence of my learning during this unit:
(link your own learning for each of these activities. Please make sure your sharing settings are open)

My Next Step: Is to continue to apply this new knowledge and evaluate texts as I read them, checking for readability, accuracy, relevance and quality of language/ information

Franz Bongalon - Use a range of multiplicative strategies when operating on whole numbers - Assessment Task

Use a range of multiplicative strategies when operating on whole numbers

I can apply the strategy to problem solving questions

The escape

A prisoner sits in his cell planning his escape. The prisoner is kept in by 5 laser beams, which operate along a corridor. Each laser is switched off at a specific time interval for just long enough to allow a person to walk through. The time between being switched off for each laser is shown below:

  • Laser One = every 3 minutes
  • Laser Two = every 2 minutes
  • Laser Three = every 5 minutes
  • Laser Four = every 4 minutes
  • Laser Five = every 1 minutes

The guard patrols and checks the prisoner each time all the laser beams are off simultaneously. Because each laser only switches off for a short time the prisoner knows he can only get past one laser at a time. He has to get past the five lasers from 1 to 5 in order. Laser One is at the entrance of the prisoner’s cell and laser Five is at the door to the outside. He also knows that if he spends longer than 4 minutes 12 seconds in the corridor an alarm will go off.

Can the prisoner escape without the alarm in the corridor going off?
Yes and all the lasers turn off 1 hour

If he can escape, how many minutes should he wait before passing Laser One?

He has to wait for 3 minutes

How much time will he have after passing Laser Five before the guard raises the alarm?

9 minutes

leardership

In writing I have been learning to:
  • use all basic punctuation independently
  • attempt more complex punctuation (eg semicolons, colons, parentheses)

I have been especially focussing on using parentheses and commas. I have highlighted these in green where I have used them as well as other punctuation that I changed because it was used incorrectly. Here is a piece of my writing that shows this.

Integrity is being honest and fair. A leader who has shown integrity is Nelson Mandela
Because when he became president he changed the law to make it fair for everyone. Integrity is important in my leadership role because peer mediators need to be fair at solving problems. I will be demonstrating this by being fair on duty.
